Our History
apostle o'dell Lyerly

The ministry began in 1955 with Elder O’Dell Lyerly preaching on 42nd Street (Hell’s Kitchen) and surrounding areas with his wife Jean. In 1956, he purchased a US mail truck and converted it into a fully equipped evangelistic van. Elder Lyerly started the Bible Way Evangelistic Center at 535 East Third Street, Mount Vernon, New York in 1961. The church opened its first Social Service Department Store Outlet on East Third Street providing food, shelter, and clothing for the needy in 1962.
With the leading of the Lord, in 1963 the Bible Way Evangelistic Center moved to 50 Prince Street, New Rochelle, New York. God blessed us to purchase the building at 290 Huguenot Street, New Rochelle in 1975. Elder Lyerly foresaw the potential in the building and the congregation labored under his guidance and the building became our church home until Urban Renewal forced us to relocate.
In 1996 we purchased our present location. Bishop O’Dell Lyerly has contributed and helped build many churches in areas such as Harlem, New Rochelle, Mamaroneck, White Plains, New York, and Connecticut. He founded the Bible Way Rescue Mission Church in Ossining, New York. There Elder Melvin T. Jones serves as Pastor; Heavenly Healing Church of Christ in Jamaica, West Indies where Minister Clifton Riley serves as Pastor and of course the Bible Way Church Inc., New Rochelle, New York.
Bishop O’Dell Lyerly has faithfully served the Bible Way Church World Wide, Inc. since its inception and has held many positions of distinction. He presently serves as the Second Vice-Presiding Bishop. On Thursday, July 8, 1999, he was consecrated an Apostle of the Bible Way Church World Wide. On December 7, 2009, Apostle O’Dell Lyerly appointed Elder David A. Lyerly from Assistant Pastor to Senior Pastor of the Bible Way Church of New Rochelle NY. On February 20, 2010, Elder David A. Lyerly was officially installed as Senior Pastor.
